unexpected trip to the dr.

Thankfully, everything is fine.

It all started last night, when I felt like I was having more braxton hicks than normal. Usually, I'll have 1 or 2 in the evenings when I'm sitting on the couch. Well I had 3 in a row last night and that started to make me nervous. I've read that if you have 6 or more in an hour, you're supposed to call your doctor.

So we went to bed early, around 8pm, and I felt like I was still having a few here and there as I laid in bed. Eventually, I fell asleep. But I didn't sleep very well because I kept waking up thinking that I was feeling more. I still don't know for sure if I was actually having any, or if I was just kind of dreaming them. I also had a bad dream about being in pre-term labor. Not cool.

When I woke up this morning, I still felt kind of off. I was noticing more twingy type pains than anything else. But I know those can be normal too. I went to work and finally decided to just call my doctor's office and let them make the decision as to whether or not I should get checked.

They called me back around 10:15 and said yes, to come in so that they could check me. So off I went.

Like I said, thankfully everything is fine. They hooked me up to the monitors for a good 20 minutes. Both baby and my ute looked fine. No contractions that they could see and Nate seemed to be doing fine. In fact, he made the nurse laugh several times with the amount he was kicking and punching at the monitors. My doc also did an internal and she said everything looked great there. Cervix was high, closed tight, and firm, just like she wanted it to be.

The only thing they could find was that I might be slightly dehydrated. So I now have strict instructions to drink at least one Gatorade a day, in addition to all the water I've been drinking. I was surprised that they actually recommended Gatorade instead of water, but the nurse said it will replenish my electrolytes much better than water. So Gatorade it is.

I'm glad I went in though. It helped put my mind at ease, and now I have even better instructions on how to fight off dehydration. So it was a win-win, even though it was nerve wracking.
