too funny.

So we had my sister and her 2 kids over for dinner and a swim tonight.  My sister knows I am pg, but my niece and nephew do not.  I made the mistake of telling them way too early last time, so I vowed not to tell them until the 2nd trimester this time.

Anyways, I have our ultrasound photos hanging on the fridge so that I can see them everyday.  I've left them up there even when the kids were over because I figured they wouldn't notice or wouldn't know what it was.  A few weeks ago when my niece was over she asked me what they were and I told her they were pictures of my stomach.  That seemed to be enough of an answer for her 4 year old little mind to comprehend.

So we were all in the kitchen preparing the paninis for dinner tonight and this time my nephew, who's 11, saw them.  First he asked, "Whose pictures are these?"  I told him they were mine, figuring I could pass them off as "stomach" pictures again.  Then he asked, "Are they pictures of a baby?"  I said yes.  He asked, "So you're pregnant?"  And I told him yes.  Then he and my niece starting cheering, it was so cute.  Of course, he said he hopes it's a boy and my niece said she hopes it's a girl.  Then my niece said, "Man, you are so lucky!"  She has been trying to convince her mom to have another baby, much to the dismay of my sister.

Moral of the story = never under-estimate the power of a kid's mind.  I honestly thought my nephew would have no clue what they were photos of.  The last one up there is from 9 weeks, and even most adults have a hard time deciphering the baby in it.  B asked him how he knew what it was and nephew replied that he remembered seeing the same kind of pics when his mom was pregnant with his sister.  He would have been 6-7 years old.  I'm amazed he remembers that!
