We took Nate in the pool for the first time this weekend and just like I had guessed, he seemed to really enjoy it. It probably helped that the pool temp was in the 90s, so it was practically like bath water to him. He kept trying to grab at the water and dip his little face in it too. He didn't really splash much, although he did seem to like floating on his belly while I held him underneath his arms. It was also the end of the day, so he was ready for a nap. I think the next time we take him in, I'll try it in the morning when he's more alert and awake.
Since we have a pool in our backyard, I'm not in any rush to sign him up for swimming lessons. I did find a few sites online that talk about different techniques that you can teach them, so I may just use those as a guide. Part of me is hesitant to dunk him underwater, just because it seems so scary as a parent. But I also want him to learn some basic water safety and I think holding your breath under water is pretty key. So we'll see, I'll have to build up some nerve to try it at some point.
Anyways, here's Nate relaxing and drying off after his first dip in the pool yesterday. I think he's giving it a thumbs up, although that thumb is in his mouth.
