I had my 36 week OB appointment this morning, along with the much anticipated growth u/s. After measuring 6 weeks ahead the last few weeks, I was really anxious to see what this u/s revealed. Did I just have a lot of fluid in there with a normal sized baby?
Well, the answer to that was most definitely no. I have a huge baby and normal fluid levels.
So here are the stats. He is measuring in the 98% percentile right now, with his head and belly measuring around 42 weeks gestation. And his estimated weight as of today is 9 lbs 4 oz. NINE POUNDS FOUR OUNCES! AT 36 WEEKS PEOPLE! So yeah, he's going to be huge. Granted, the doc warned me that the estimate can be off by +/- a pound. Even so, he'd still be considered huge for his gestational age if it's off by a pound. A typical 36 weeker is around 5 to 6 lbs.
To top it all off, he is also in the frank breech position. His little (or big, depending on how you look at it) bum is basically sitting on my cervix, with his head and feet up at the top of my uterus. The doc thinks that due to his size and lack of room in there, the chance of him turning at this point is slim to none.
Which basically all boils down to having a c-section. A huge breech baby will not make it out of my hooha, that's for sure. And even if he does turn, the doc thinks it's safest for him to be delivered via c/s given his size and my size. So c/s it is. I've said all along, I just want him here healthy and alive. I don't really care how he comes out. So it looks like little (big) Baby Nate's birthday will be January 5th!
In other news, I've been working on finishing up his nursery these last few weeks and I'm really happy with how it has turned out. I finally got a shelf to hang above the crib. And I found some bright turquoise curtains that went perfectly with everything else. Oh, and I got a bookshelf as well. So here are some pics of how it looks as of today.

Holy cow. If I had your medical chart I would put Vaginal Birth=Oh Hell to to the No!
ReplyDeleteI was going to call you yesterday to chit chat-but I don't have your number (I got a new phone.)
