ivf drama.

So I've had a bit of drama this morning regarding our April IVF.

Went to RE this morning for another u/s and b/w and was told at the front desk that the billing/insurance manager needed to speak with me after my appt. Okay fine. Appt was good. Today's CD10 and I have 2 follies at 14mm, 1 at 13mm, and 2 at 11mm. Then a few others that were smaller. Nurse will call me later with b/w results and instructions. She said it's still iffy at this point, but looking better than Wed.

So I go to see the billing/insurance manager. He tells me that my insurance denied IVF right now because they have a policy of lesser before greater. He said they want me to do a "few" more IUIs before moving onto IVF. He thinks they mean about 3. Which means I would have to wait until the July cycle of IVF. I asked him if they already took into account my 2 previous IUIs in 2007 and he said yes. I was pretty bummed when I left.

Fast forward. I get to work and decide to call my insurance company to find out what a "few" means. I talk to a nice lady named Mary who tells me that my insurance requires I do 3 injectible IUIs prior to IVF. I asked her if my previous IUIs count towards that total and she said, yes they should and that it doesn't matter how long ago I had them done or at what clinic. Then she asks why my RE's billing/insurance manager didn't tell them about my previous IUIs. Hmm, good question.

So we 3 way call the b/i manager. Mary asks him why he didn't include my 2 previous IUIs when he talked to Gail yesterday. He tells her they weren't done at their clinic and he doesn't have the records. She tells him that doesn't matter, they still count against that magic 3 number. I told him I had all of my records faxed over for my very first appt, so a copy of those should be in my file somewhere. He tells me they shred them once the RE does his initial review (HUH????). Fine. So Mary tells me to request them from my previous RE again and have them faxed to her.

I think the b/i manager was a little annoyed, but frankly, so am I. I shouldn't have to call and find out on my own that I don't really have to wait until July after all.

So I put in the call to my previous RE to request my records again. Only problem is they take 7-14 days to get the info sent out. I sent a sweet note on my fax, so I'm hoping they might process it a little quicker. I'd really like to get the ball rolling sooner rather than later.

Plus, my insurance company still needs to review them once they get them, and then make a decision on my coverage. I'm hoping they will count my first IUI as an injectible one. Technically, I was on Femara + injectibles that cycle. But I was only on the injectible for 3 days, as a kind of added follie booster. Keeping my fingers crossed that they still count it.

Gotta love the drama of IF. And now I see why it pays to check, double check, and triple check things. You literally have to stay on top of every.single.little.thing if you want things to go somewhat smoothly. It's like having a second job.
