Well, when I was growing up, my mom and dad used to say it to us kids as a kind of warning not to get into trouble. Kind of like, no shenanigans you guys. Or behave yourselves.
When I was older, I asked my mom where it came from, since my friends always looked at me like I was crazy when I said it. She said that at some point in our family history, it used to be "no monkey shines" and it meant the same thing. Except someone, somewhere along the way messed it up and turned it into "no shiny monkeys."
So we've kept up the tradition all these years.
