Yesterday was a bad day. I didn't expect it to be a wonderful day by any means, especially being my first day back at work and Nate's first full day of daycare. But I certainly didn't expect it to be THIS sucky.
So we started the day off with a bad night of sleep. Nate woke up more than usual so I ended up only getting about 4 hours of sleep total, in 2 hour increments. He was up for the day at 4:30. Lovely.
Dropped him off and then called a few times in the morning to check on him. He was doing fine. Then I went to nurse him at lunch time. Poor little guy hadn't napped much that morning so he felt right to sleep while nursing. Kissed him goodbye and then went to pick up my sister so that she could help me swap cars around and get a rental for B while his car was in the shop.
We're driving along minding our own business when I look in my rearview mirror and see a car coming up behind us and they're not slowing down. I think I shrieked something like "Oh my god!" right before they ran into us. Thankfully they weren't going full speed (speed limit was 45). Airbags didn't deploy. And no one was hurt. But it was still scary. And it felt like they hit us 2 or 3 times. Even my sister made that comment.
Come to find out, the driver was a 15-year-old girl with her permit. The other driver in the car? 17-years-old. I don't even think that's legal. But whatever, the cop didn't cite them. I honestly think she mistook the gas pedal for the brake pedal and that's why it felt like she hits us 2 or 3 times. I had locked down my brakes when she hit us so that we wouldn't hit the car in front of us and it felt like she kept trying to accelerate afterwards.
Anyways, I'm just glad Nate wasn't with me or I'm sure I would have been a basket case. The damage to my car doesn't seem to be too bad as the majority of her front end slid underneath mine. So my exhaust system seems screwed up and the bumper is scuffed, but nothing major appears to be wrong. But still, now I get the joy of dealing with the insurance companies. What fun.
As for Nate, I think he did okay on his first day, all things considered. He didn't nap as much as he usually does for me, but I was expecting that since he'll have to adjust to the noise level of other crying babies and what not. Poor little thing fell right to sleep on the short ride home and then slept straight through until 7:30, when I woke him up for his bedtime routine (bath, swaddle, rock, nurse). Then he was asleep for the night by 8:30 and slept all the way until 4:00 this morning. Definitely tuckered him out.
